In retaliation for "Israel's aggression against Gaza," Yemeni Houthi terrorists captured 25 crew members on a Japanese-operated cargo ship that they hijacked in the Red Sea on Sunday. Israel denied any connection to the crew, ownership, or operation of the ship in a statement released by the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Public ownership records, however, identify Israeli businessman Abraham "Rami" Ungar as the owner of the yacht. The government of Japan has denounced the ship's capture, saying it was traveling from Turkey to India.

The US and Israel both insisted that no agreement had been struck, despite a report in the Washington Post on Sunday that the US, Israel, and Hamas had signed a provisional agreement that calls for the release of at least fifty hostages in Gaza each day during a five-day ceasefire. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, the prime minister of Qatar, stated on Sunday that there are just "minor" and "more logistical" issues left.

Antonio Guterres, the secretary-general of the United Nations, expressed his "deep shock that two UNRWA schools were struck in less than 24 hours in Gaza" in a statement on Sunday. He praised Qatar for spearheading mediation efforts and demanded a quick humanitarian ceasefire.
